《說岳全傳》描寫了宋代抗金名將岳飛率領宋軍抗擊北方金人南下入侵的英勇事蹟。由清代的作家錢彩、金豐在各類“嶽傳”的基礎上增訂而成。後世一般將錢彩列為“編次”者，金豐列為“增訂”者。
《說岳全傳》為章回小說，以岳飛父子抗金事蹟為主。岳飛在民間傳說中樹立起的正直、忠義、孝順、英武和神勇的形象，在《說岳全傳》裏得到充分的體現。北宋靖康之恥後，南方政權又多次被少數民族政權摧毀，《說岳全傳》裏的主題，暗含了相當多的文人對於反抗異族侵略、正統政權勝利的傳統觀念。
說岳全傳從嶽飛出生寫起，中間情節包括拜師周侗，搶挑小梁王，岳母刺字，鏖兵牛頭山，嶽雲出世，錘震金彈子，朱仙鎮大捷，最後到岳飛、岳雲、張憲被秦檜等奸臣構陷下獄，以“莫須有”的罪名在風波亭殺害，再到岳飛次子岳雷率領宋軍打敗金人，直搗黃龍府，恭迎二帝還朝，後半部情節基本上為虛構。塑造了嶽飛及其率領的“岳家軍”精忠報國的英雄形象，也刻畫出以秦檜為代表的投降派人物的醜惡面目。
