Collected Stories: Algernon Blackwood
This eBook is a collection of stories by Algernon Blackwood, an influential English author of horror, fantasy and science fiction (also known as weird tales).
No less than H. P. Lovecraft wrote that Blackwood's stories “lead the fancy to wild rites on nocturnal hills, to secret and terrible aspects lurking behind stolid scenes ... all with a serious finesse and delicacy that convince where a cruder or lighter treatment would merely amuse. Some of [Blackwood's stories] are hardly stories at all, but rather studies in elusive impressions and half-remembered snatches of dream. Plot is everywhere negligible, and atmosphere reigns untrammelled.”
This eBook is a collection of some of Blackwood's most celebrated work:
+The Empty House and Other Ghost Stories (a set of short stories, first published in 1906)
+The Willows (a novella, first published in 1907): This is the story of two campers staying on a small island on the Danube surrounded by willows. They encounter hostile supernatural forces during their overnight stay. This was reported to be Lovecraft's favourite weird tale in English.
+The Wendigo (a novel, first published in 1910): A hunter is abducted by the Wendigo, a malevolent cannibalistic creature of Native American legend.
+The Damned (a novel, first published in 1914): A great haunted house story.
