Someone else, however, is very far from pleased. Someone whose footsteps pace outside Aline’s bedroom at dead of night. Someone who whispers words of hatred to her in the dark. Someone who puts a jagged shard of glass under her pillow for her to cut herself on... It seems Aline has a rival for Orlando’s affections, and that rival will stop at nothing—even murder—to get her own way.
But who is she? Aline does not know, for her enemy is always too quick and too cunning to be seen. There are two suspects in her mind: Orielle, or a girl called Zilla, who used to be a servant at the house and tried to snare Orlando. The thought that Orielle could be behind the attacks is too awful to contemplate. But the culprit can’t be Zilla—because Zilla died in a fire that destroyed the north wing two years ago.
