Yakushima: A Picture Tour of the Forest of Souls
Yakushima is a richly forested island of southern Japan, visited by 300,000 tourists every year. Its warm-temperate ancient cedar forest is a natural UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 1993.
k-bim hiro, a video artist who has frequented the area for over 15 years, takes you to a virtual trip to the peaceful isle.
It is said to rain "35 days a month" on Yakushima. This lavish rain nurtures the subtropical island's tall cedar trees and the mosses that plushly covers the forest floor.
Enjoy this photograph collection of the enchanted forest that inspired the Hayao Miyazaki's film, Princess Mononoke.
Through out the slides, you will feel the breath of nature and the forest spirit that fills the mountains and ravines.
Each photograph captures the forests in both macrocosmic and microcosmic way; dynamic energy of the trees and the mosses moistened with pure water that covers them.

* How to navigate *
- Tap to show various controls including map and save buttons.
- Tap the upper edge of the screen to access the menu.
- Tap the lower edge of the screen in Manual Mode to reveal the Photo Roll.
- Tap on both sides of the screen in Manual Mode to slide right or left.
* Caution *
Network connection is required to display locations on map.
With OS 3.0 or greater, you can view maps without leaving the app.
On devices with lower OS versions, the Maps application launches
when you tap on the map button.
To adjust the sound level, please use the volume buttons of your device.
