수학에서 +, -, ×, ÷ 등의 기호가 의미하는 것을 모른다면 수식은 단지 그림에 불과하듯이, 과학을 공부하는 데 있어 기본적인 용어의 숙지는 보다 넓은 이해와 깊이 있는 탐구를 위한 전제 조건이라 할 수 있습니다.
지구과학 용어사전은 지구과학 분야의 기본 용어를 엄선하여 교과서 옆에 항상 가까이 두고 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있도록 정리하였습니다.
