Next time when you want to relax or relieve yourself from stress, try launching Double Pendulum on your iPhone or iPod touch. Watch leisurely the pendulums swing hypnotically. From times, the pendulums may swing in a more periodic way. From times, they may swing in a mostly chaotic way. You can, at any time, drag on the longer end of each pendulum to alter the pendulum motion for a new experience, or to help center yourself.

Change the background picture with any of your favour ones from your Photo Albums. Or better yet, if you have an iPhone, you can "virtually put" Double Pendulum anywhere you are (e.g. on a sea side) - simply press the "camera" button, you can then align the moving sculpture on your camera view when you take picture.

ACADEMIA
From academic point of view, Double Pendulum is a simple but effective demonstration of a chaos theory or butterfly effect. Press the "i" button to flip over and see the free body diagram.
Under certain initial conditions, normally with small initial angles, Double Pendulum exhibits simple harmonic motion. With large initial angles, Double Pendulum undergoes chaotic motion. You can always drag on the longer end of each pendulum (i.e. locations represented by m1 & m2) to alter the initial conditions and observe.


NOTES:
* Tap and drag on the intersection of the pendulums to alter the angle of the inner pendulum.
** Camera Mode is NOT available on iPod touch. Double Pendulum will pause itself during Camera Mode when you take picture.
