Hanafuda Vocab

This app will teach you the vocabulary you need to understand the traditional Japanese card game, Hanafuda.

Note, this app will not allow you to PLAY Hanafuda. For that we recommend checking out HANAFUDA Japan Lite, a free app made by Mr. Hayakawa.

This app will teach you the terminology and lore behind the Hanafuda game. Without this knowledge it can be pretty difficult for a non-Japanese to make much sense of the game.

The Quiz Mode will show you two to four cards, and a Japanese voice will say the name of the card. It is then up to you to pick out which card was said.

Another mode will challenge you to match the name of the month in Japanese with the card that it represents.

Each of the study cards also contains additional information describing the meaning behind the images on the cards.
