hokseh is the ultimate Chinese flashcard app designed to help you practice both your pinyin and your character writing. You’ll never have to buy index cards again! The app homepage at http://hokseh.thmttch.net allows any user to create new dictionary entries and flashcards which can be downloaded directly into the application. All flashcards are shared, making it perfect for students, teachers, study groups, and travelers!
In Pinyin Mode, you are shown a character and the definition and asked to input the correct pinyin. If you’re stuck, you can even ask for hints.
In Writing Mode, you are shown a pinyin and the definition and asked to write the character, just as if you’re practicing on paper. When you’re done, you can show the correct character superimposed on your writing to show you how close you were. You can also ask for the answer, and trace the strokes as you’re first learning. (Note that stroke order is not shown.) Soon you’ll be able to write the character without any help!
In Flashcard mode you can select which sets of flashcards you want to practice on, making hokseh an invaluable complement to your textbooks and language tapes.
This version comes preinstalled with a small dictionary database (courtesy of http://cc-cedict.org), but be sure to visit http://hokseh.thmttch.net to fully harness the usefulness of the hokseh Chinese flashcard app!
The name "hokseh" is a (crude) Cantonese pronounciation of "學寫" (Simplified: 学写), which means, roughly, "learn to write".
Fixed bug with codesigning only with iPhoneOS 2.0.
