Terraphone

       iOS iPhone

There are a lot of apps that teach you how to find stuff that's already been found...but now there's Terraphone, the first iPhone app devoted specifically to geologic discovery!

Terraphone is an easy interface to scientific analysis of the world around you. This is --NOT-- simply some book in iPhone form...this is a tool that brings ACTUAL SCIENCE to you in a highly-localized way. In other words: You choose a location, and Terraphone teaches you the science about it!

You can:

* Study Geochronologically dated strata layers
* Learn where minerals have been found
* Learn where fossils have been found
* Learn where meteorites have been found
* Learn where precious metals were found
* See the scientific analysis of finds
* Learn what layers of rock the minerals were in
* View images of minerals
* Learn about the surrounding terrain
* Learn about nearby geographic features
* Earth impact craters worldwide
* Use street and satellite maps
* Quick lookups from a dictionary of more than 28,000 geology and mining-related terms - This is a MUST for earth science professionals!

iPhone world loved it:

"The data available for across the US is very concise...I really like the interface and user-friendliness of Terraphone...if you enjoy learning
about geology, or you are looking for a geology reference guide, this app is perfect" - (Received "Silver" award) - Rob Lewis, iPhone World

Whether you're an earth science professional, a student, a fossil-hunter, or just a weekend rockhound, Terraphone is FUN and TREMENDOUSLY EDUCATIONAL.

Things to know before you buy:

* Internet connection required to download data, but downloaded data can then be viewed offline through "History" and "Save" functions.
* Images are high-resolution so that you can zoom in and see great detail. As a result, load times vary. Be patient, the longer you wait, the more detailed the image is!

Terraphone not only works for your current location, but you can also study geology all over the United States. (limited data available for the state of Hawaii and many areas outside the US).

For clarification, the term "Strata" as used in Terraphone refers to a very large data set of geochronologically-dated rock layers including igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic classifications which have been scientifically studied and the results published. The location and availability of the samples varies, but the overwhelming majority of our users find it quite satisfactory.

Since Terraphone promotes a view of data that tries to connect users with the raw science at the actual collection point rather than just presenting shapefile overlays (which are really just abstractions of the actual samples), there will be varying distances between the exact point chosen to study and the exact points of the samples. The data reported for a study point are the closest sample points to the chosen area, and is very valuable for understanding the nearby geologic context, even if a certain layer or number of layers were not reported in the samples.

To be clear, Terraphone delivers when it comes to good, concise scientific data at good resolutions. There's no other app quite like it, and we welcome your suggestions and feedback.
