What's reinsurance? What use is it? What has it got to do with economic progress?
If you want to know more then Swiss Re's iPad App is for you. The App is aimed at newcomers to reinsurance and those who need to freshen up their knowledge of the industry. It can be used to explain the workings of the industry to new joiners, business partners, students, friends and family.

Did you know, for example, that without the support of the reinsurance industry many goods and services that we take for granted would simply not be available? Or that peak risks consist of earthquakes or storms in industrialised countries with high insurance density.

This App include brief definitions of the following insurances: space, product liability, agricultural, casualty, credit, business interruption, accident, engineering, directors’ and officers’ liability, natural hazards, aviation, marine, life & health, motor, property and third party liability. It also summarises the two main forms of traditional insurance such as facultative reinsurance and treaty insurance and the importance of the diversification of risks.

So the App covers all the basics of the business. Touching on the reinsurance business model, emerging risks, underwriting, risk management and volatility. The App uses audio, graphics, videos and animations to bring the story of reinsurance alive.
