ArtRays
Art Rays is a second generation ray tracing app from Craig Lindley and Clockwork Software meant specifically for the iPad/iPad2. Art Rays creates unique, one of a kind, works of three dimensional art. With Art Rays, think of your iPad as a picture frame that generates it own art and think of what a conversation piece that can be. Each image is created with a series of geometric shapes each with unique surface colors and textures. Some shapes have a matte, plastic like, surface, others are like polished metal and still others have mirror like reflectivity that catches the reflections of other objects in the scene. Unlike Art Rays Lite for the iPhone/iPod Touch, Art Rays allows you complete control of the images it generates. You can select the number and type of geometric shapes to use, the palettes to color the images with, the number and types of light sources to use and much more. Additionally the images can be saved and used later for cards, coffee cups or who knows what. Art Rays is meant to provide hours of fun and suspense as you never know what the next image it generates will look like. Not every image is a masterpiece but some images will have the complexity, warmth and color shading that will take your breath away. PERFORMANCE
A lot of time has been spent on Art Rays to increase performance. How long it takes Art Rays to create an image depends upon the content of the image (how many shapes, light sources and textures) and the positions of the objects within the scene. Most images render quickly but some take considerably longer. There are literally millions of calculations being performed for each image and that takes time. We know Art Rays will be criticized by some for the time it takes to produce images in our instant gratification world. Just remember, some good things take time and are worth waiting for.
