BigBand

The Big Band App is devoted to rare visual clips of musical legends of the Swing and Big Band era such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Billy Eckstine, Lionel Hampton, Nat King Cole, Gene Krupa, and many more. It consists of the earliest versions of music videos produced in New York, Chicago and Hollywood between 1940 and 1946, collectively known as "Soundies." The clips were displayed on the Panoram, a coin-operated film jukebox located in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, factory lounges, and amusement parks. These performances of great stars have been restored and digitized specifically for download access on the Iphone for the first time, and are available for viewing just by touching your screen. With twenty videos to choose from, The Big Band App covers all genres.

From the gritty vocals of Billie Holiday, the sweet piano playing of Hoagy Carmichael, the unsurpassed guitar virtuosity of Les Paul, to the comedic carryings-on of Louis Jordan, Spike Jones and Cab Calloway, Take a visual stroll down memory lane and indulge yourself in a world long gone but still remembered for the enduring music these talented masters have left behind for us to enjoy forever.
