Chaos Pendulum is a simulation on your iPhone of a compound double pendulum. Because of its unpredictable motion, the Chaos Pendulum can be mesmerizing to watch. The Chaos Pendulum makes use of the accelerometers to respond to the motion of your iPhone in real time. It’s like having a little toy pendulum inside your iPhone.
In addition to the fascinating motion of the Chaos Pendulum itself, you can enable multi-colored light trails that create mesmerizing patterns on your screen as the Chaos Pendulum moves. You can set your music playing, start Chaos Pendulum, lower the lights and turn on the light trails, relaxing while watching the light show.
The Chaos pendulum provides an excellent demonstration of the principles of chaos theory. Chaos theory is used to describe systems that have an extreme sensitivity to initial conditions. The unpredictability of chaotic systems stems from this sensitivity.
