Claude Monet (1840 –1926) was one of the founders and one of the most consistent artists of French impressionism; the movement's name itself actually originated from the title of one of his painting: Impression, Sunrise.
In his art, Monet was able to capture the fleeting essence of nature: the light and colour reflections on flowers, on water, in the sky; the particular atmosphere of a landscape in different seasons or times of the day. The aim of catching every slight change in colouring led him to paint several series of almost identical paintings with the same subject in different lights.

This book contains many of Monet’s best known masterpieces, together with complete information about date, techniques, current location or museum; each painting is also accompanied with comments by the famous critic Camille Mauclair.
