(One of the greatest and most beloved American holiday traditions, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Starring the world-famous Radio City Rockettes, will be available beginning November 3rd via digital download for the first time ever. Previously sold in DVD format only (at all retail outlets), the digital version will be at iTunes and Amazon.com, allowing fans to enjoy the cherished holiday show at virtually anytime and in any location. A festive Radio City Christmas Spectacular branded iPhone app is also available this holiday season from the iPhone app store. The application offers up six different Christmas background settings and includes music from a variety of Time Life Christmas compilations. Transforming into a snow globe when shaken, the app is fun for the whole family and is available free for iPhone and iPod touch users.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is America¹s #1 Holiday show and has played to more than 65 million people since its inception in 1933. In 2009, more than 1.2 million fans attended the New York City production and an additional 1 million patrons saw the debut of the new Arena tour production and the theatre¹s touring version of The Christmas Spectacular.
Along with re-imagined Rockette favorites, including the ³12 Days of Christmas² scene, this year¹s show will feature the world-famous Rockettes in dynamic performance routines within an unforgettable signature production number set in Times Square, lighting up the New York skyline
with a glittering fireworks display onstage. In ³New York at Christmas,² the world-famous Rockettes will board a REAL double-decker Gray Line tour bus for a once-in-a-lifetime tour of Manhattan. The Rockettes and audience will take a tour of historic landmarks such as the Empire State Building, 5th Avenue¹s store windows and even Central Park. They arrive in Times Square, where they perform a show-stopping number surrounded by all the lights and excitement that only New York City can generate. The number climaxes with a live fireworks display onstage! The Christmas Spectacular includes dramatic theatrical lighting effects, breathtaking imagery, flying characters and an array of glamorous costumes, leaving no doubts about the magic of Christmas at Radio City.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular has been a holiday tradition since its inception in 1933, when it was originally performed as a holiday ³gift² between movie screenings. It has long since become the main event and draws people from all over the world who have made it a holiday tradition. In 1994, due to popular demand, MSG Entertainment broadened the beloved holiday theatrical¹s schedule for the first time to encompass markets outside of New York, while running simultaneously with the New York production. Since then, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular has performed in top cities across North America. In its 16-year combined history outside of New York, as well as the production at Radio City Music Hall, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular has played to more than 65 million people in 43 different cities. This year, The Christmas Spectacular touring production will entertain audiences once again in more than 36 cities including Nashville, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas and Pittsburgh.
