Wired.com writes: "We had some hands-on time with the app, and we absolutely love the clean interface and the idea as a whole. ... with some smart execution, we think Scarab has an opportunity to become tremendously popular among creative writers and literature enthusiasts."
NOTE: Each issue is purchased separately, but one poem per issue will always be free; tap its title in the issue preview to view it. (Tip: Tap the star to mark it as a favorite in order to come back to it more easily.) And don't forget, 22% of the purchase price goes straight to the artists who spend their time producing top quality art for us all to enjoy.

Scarab offers a unique experience: listen to and read along with the best in contemporary poetry and prose. Featuring the work of Charles Simic, Tony Hoagland, Chase Twichell, and David Rivard—as well as exciting new talent—Scarab combines the thrill of a live public reading with the intimacy of a phone call from a friend.
Each issue issue presents eleven new works, available only in Scarab and read by the author. Like any magazine, each issue is purchased separately; before you buy it you’ll receive a preview of all the writers featured as well as free text and audio of one of its poems. When you’re ready, you can purchase the issue in the application through your iTunes account. Apple directly handles the secure transaction using the new "in app" purchasing. And because we believe good writing is worth paying for, 22% of the purchase price goes directly to the artists.
In addition to a free poem with each issue, we also provide a transcript of our podcast interview with a well known author (with helpful footnotes from our editor). The audio is available for free in our podcast; you can find a link to it from our website www.scarabmag.com.
We believe with Ezra Pound that, “Man reading should be man intensely alive. The book should be a ball of light in one's hand.” Good writing is like that light: it helps us perceive the world more clearly. Try Scarab out and see for yourself.

Comments from Beta Testers
— I needed only to tap on one poem before I realized how eager I was to devour the rest of the issue--incredibly rare for a lit journal, in my experience.
— Really, really awesome and adds immense value to hear the poets themselves read it aloud. Ingenious concept that brought the poems to life.
— Scarab is like a reading in a bookstore...you feel the personality of the writer, like he's a friend sharing something he scribbled in the middle of the night and had to show you.
