My Ski Runs
MySkiRuns is the MUST HAVE app if you ski or snowboard. It is different from other GPS skiing or snowboarding apps – it’s more accurate, more flexible, saves battery life, easy-to-use, and has an auto shut-off feature.
MORE FLEXIBLE
It uses iOS 4 multitasking capability and can receive GPS location data while running in the background. You can put your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 to sleep and save the battery or you can use your iPhone to listen to music, take pictures, make calls, or run any other apps while MySkiRuns tracks your skiing or snowboarding activity in the background.
AUTO SHUT-OFF FEATURE
If you forget to touch the STOP RUN button at the end of your ski/snowboard run, the app automatically detects the end of your run in one of two ways: (1) No or little movement for 5 minutes (settable between 1 and 30 minutes in “Settings”) such as when you are waiting in the lift line; or (2) When you start going uphill such as when there is no lift line and you get right on the lift. When the app detects one of these conditions, it gives you an alert message and if you do not respond in 1 minute, it automatically stops the run, saves your run information in the history file and turns off the GPS unit.
EASY-TO-USE
Just before you start your run, you double-tap the large START RUN button, put the device to sleep (by pressing the SLEEP switch on the top of the iPhone) and place it in your pocket. The app has a shut-off timer that gives you up to 5 minutes (settable between 1 and 30 minutes) to start your run. When you are finished with your run, you can double-tap the STOP RUN button or let the auto shut-off feature automatically stop your run for you.
MORE ACCURATE RESULTS
Because MySkiRuns is designed specifically for skiing or snowboarding it knows when it receives out-of-range GPS data and disregards the bad information providing very accurate results.
Real Run Duration
Intelligent processing of the data eliminates the need for a pause button and provides a very accurate run duration. The run duration is calculated by removing the time you are not moving or are moving too slowly. It also removes the times when you are going uphill.
Real Distance
Calculated by removing all distances when you are moving too slowly or going uphill. The extra distance traveled due to the slope of the hill is also added to compute your real distance.
Average Speed
Calculated by using the Real Run Duration and Real Distance. This provides an accurate average speed measured while you were actually skiing or snowboarding.
Maximum Speed
Calculated by filtering the GPS data and performing statistical analysis on the distance/time data provided by the GPS unit.
Maximum Decline
Determined by calculating the slope from the distance and altitude data provided by the GPS unit and eliminating any unreasonable values and then using a least-squares line fit method to calculate the maximum decline.
Calories:
Calculated by using your actual weight as provided by you in “Settings” and using your instantaneous speeds (not your average speed).
BATTERY LIFE
Because MySkiRuns can run in the background you can put your iPhone 3GS or 4 to sleep and save the battery. However, continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. If you should forget to end your ski run, MySkiRuns will automatically stop the GPS unit and save your battery. A single battery charge can last all day skiing or snowboarding.
SETTINGS
All settings are set in the Apple “Settings” application. Settings allow you to choose between the Metric system and USA units of measure. You can also enable/disable the auto shut-off feature and set the auto shut-off timer used to detect no or slow movement. You must enter your weight in the settings in order to correctly calculate calories burnt.
REQUIREMENTS
iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 running iOS 4.0 or above.
