Every Valentine’s Day, people all around the globe go out for a romantic dinner. Certain foods are believed to be appropriate for a Valentine’s Day dinner. However, aphrodisiacs are considered ideal for this occasion.
An aphrodisiac foodstuff is used in the belief that it increases sexual desire. Many foods, drinks, and behaviors are considered apt for making sex more pleasurable. However, from a historical and scientific standpoint, the alleged results may have been mainly due to mere belief by their users that they would be effective.
Some aphrodisiacs gain their reputation from the principles of sympathetic magic, for example oysters, due to their shape. Oysters, which are associated with Venus, the Roman goddess of love, are supposed to increase amorous feelings.
Oysters Rockefeller are very popular among those who love to enjoy food and love simultaneously. Chocolate and asparagus are both popular aphrodisiacs.
Aphrodisiacs are not the only way to set the right mood for Valentine’s Day. If you are not worried about serving something that is slightly messy, spaghetti and meatballs can be a highly romantic dish.
Food that is usually reserved for special occasions, such as fillet mignon, lamb, truffles, and caviar could also be served as Valentine’s Day dish.
Ending the Valentine’s Day meal with something chocolaty like chocolate covered strawberries is suggested. Champagne should accompany the dessert, as well.
In order to enjoy a lot from a Valentine’s Day dinner one should make sure deficiency of vitamin B can lead to lack of energy and depression. Essential fatty acids are needed for the brain and nerve cells to work properly. Eating oily fish (e.g. mackerel, tuna, sardines, or salmon) is usually recommended to be taken at this occasion.
Even if you don't have time to cook something special, you can serve everything up in heart shapes for Valentine's Day, e.g. the heart shaped sandwiches, hearts cut out of bread and butter!
