Drug Trap

Drug-Trap is an easy to use iPhone application meant to help physicians and students of the diverse life-science programs to calculate the percent of ionization of weak acidic or weak basic drugs. The grade of ionization is important for drug uptake/elimination since only uncharged drugs can efficiently cross biological membranes. Furthermore, the program allows the user to calculate the degree of ion-trapping for a particular drug. In this model, the pH of two different compartments (A and B) can be chosen, and the program calculates the respective percentage of ionization and indicates whether, and in which compartment the drug will be ‘trapped’. For further information refer to the latest edition of ‘Katzung’ (Basic and Clinical Pharmacology, 11th Edition, McGrawHill-Lange). By switching the language in the main settings of the iPhone, the program language will switch from English to German to Italian, respectively.
In addition, a list of different body-fluid pH levels are included for reference.
