Fluid & Electrolyte Calculator

The Fluid & Electrolyte Calculator is an educational tool designed to calculate the maintenance fluid requirements as well as the fluids needed to replace deficits from dehydration. It is designed to be used mainly for pediatric patients, however, may also be used for adults with caution. All calculations should be reviewed. The calculator will calculate fluid needs base on patient weight, serum sodium, and percent dehydration. The calculations take into account Free Water Deficits as well as the type of dehydration (Acute, Chronic, etc). This is an invaluable tool for medical students, residents, and practicing physicians.

What's new

Modified how the calculator handles hypertonic patient. In hypertonic patients it will recommend replacing the fluids at a slower rate (over 24 hours). Also added equations to the website.
