Why You Should Read This Dek!
According to the American Diabetes Association 23.6 million Americans (7.8% of the U.S. population) have diabetes. 17.9 million are diagnosed and 5.7 million are undiagnosed. 1.6 million new cases were diagnosed in 2007* (ages 20 or older). 57 million people in the U.S. have pre-diabetes.

You can have diabetes for 7 years or more before the effects of the disease begin to manifest in such a way that you find it imperative to seek treatment. In this period, severe damage can be done to your eyes, kidneys, nervous system and heart.
Diabetes is a very serious disease and you should be aware of what it is; what it can do to you; and what you can do to postpone it or, if necessary, manage it effectively.
• Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD), adult blindness, non-traumatic lower-extremity amputation, and impotence.
• Heart disease and stroke are 2 to 4 times more common in people with diabetes.
But the good news is that evidence has shown that the risk of complications of diabetes can be greatly reduced when people with diabetes control their blood glucose, blood pressure and weight, reduce lipid abnormalities, exercise regularly, and stop smoking.
