iSpotter
By using iSpotter, you can record your movement history and execute location dependent web-services according to the current position detected by WiFi AP-based location detection method.
You can record movement history and user location-based applications on iPod touch, which does not have GPS feature, or in a building, where GPS does not work since it can detect and learn location by WiFi AP.
The WiFi AP database is saved on iPhone/iPod. This enables 'offline' location detections i.e. location detections when there's no Internet connection nor GPS signal. You can use map with current position, even when iPhone is out of service.
In iOS4, it runs GPS in the background if you turn on Built-in Location Detection.
Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
