YOU R HERE allows you to take a picture of a mapboard and have your iPhone GPS plot your location on it.
Local mapboards at trailheads, parks, and in tourist areas contain details you won't find in Google maps. Take them with you on your walk or hike.
In addition to photos of map boards, you can take almost any map image and turn it into a custom, offline map.
- Download tourist maps off the internet before you leave for vacation
- Take advantage of local maps with local information not found in generic mapping applications
- Use topo maps from online mapping sites
The free version is fully functional and allows up to 3 saved maps. For unlimited saved maps download the paid version.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Take a picture of a map board.
2. Set your current location.
3. Walk a distance away and set a second location.
4. Done. Your iPhone will now plot your location on the map image.
You can also manually enter lat/lons if you want to set your map up before heading out. If map north is not pointing up on the image, you need to change the compass to set map north to point in the right direction.
When you are traveling abroad or hiking in the backcountry, you don’t always have access to an internet connection. YOU R HERE stores maps offline and works without a cellphone connection.
iPod Touch users - this app will work with the iPod Touch, but is limited due to the lack of on-board camera and GPS. It is still useful when traveling abroad though, particularly in cities with open wifi.
Added ability to zoom in and out on map images.
