I don't want anybody to be disappointed with this app, so I'll be the first to point out its limitations:
1) due to the heavy image processing nature of the program, it can only generate pictures that are 640x480 (or 480x640) in size. It's not the best quality, and I wouldn't expect to do any professional or studio work with it - however, it *is* good enough to share with friends and family, get some laughs from it, post it on facebook, etc - so if you're still interested, read on!
2) The replicator/green screener, due to mobile/hardware limitations, can take a little patience to use. Your device must be held *very* still on a plain background - the iPhone 4 works great for this as the phone can be laid on its side to rest. Even if its not perfect, you can use your finger to erase and clean up the replicated image before you save it, so with patience, anything is possible. :)
3) Certain important features are missing - namely, the ability to import a picture you've previously taken. This will take some work but I am working on it for the next update. Sorry about that, folks.
If you are ok with these three disclaimers, then you may really enjoy this app!
repliCam provides near limitless creativity by offering you two modes of operation - the replication mode, and the camera mode.
Replication Mode: This mode is your own blue/green screen studio. Once you enter this mode, point it to a solid colored, or basic background (even scenery works, if you can keep a very steady hand and have some patience). Click on "Lock BG", and keep the phone still. Anything that enters the frame now, will be "cut out" as a new replication object (use the slider to set aggressiveness). Once you click "Replicate", you'll have a chance to use your finger as an eraser tool to clean up unwanted parts of the cutout image, or to smooth out the edges, etc, before naming it and saving it to your device.
Camera mode: This works much like a basic standard camera - but once your picture is taken, you'll have the chance to insert any of your previously created items into your photo. Drag, pinch, and use the slider to rotate and position your image, and repeat with other items as desired! Once you're all done, you can save it to your Photo Gallery.
Enjoy! With a little patience and creativity, you can create some very fun photos. Try using the replicator on a blank white screen on your computer monitor. Lock the background, then load the image you want on that white screen - you now have the desired picture in your device, trimmed and prepared for replicating into other images. Note: the app comes with a few included ones, but the fun is in making your own! :)
