Shorpy - History in HD

Shorpy.com | History in HD is a vintage photo blog featuring thousands of high-definition images from the 1850s to 1950s. The site is named after Shorpy Higginbotham, a teenage coal miner who lived 100 years ago.

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by Shorpy.com for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

In this app you can view the 150 most recent images posted to Shorpy.com. You can also search the entire catalog of over 6,000 images. Any image can be easily saved to your device in high resolution. These images look great behind the icons of your home screen, or under the clock of your lock screen.

** Please note: this app requires an internet connection in order to work. We highly recommend using it only while on WiFi or 3G due to the size and quality of the images some of them are quite large and may take a few moments to display.***
