[steel basic] for iPhone & ipod Touch is the free version of [steel], the best mobile structural steel reference on the market.
NOTE: There are some important differences b/w this free app & [steel]. We give away this version so that you can decide whether & decide whether [steel] is right for you.
SOME OF THE LIMITATIONS:
- Search Behavior: your search must be exact, following the proper format for the shape you are looking for: i.e.: W{space}16{space}X{space}89. Only casing is irrelevant (W vs w or X vs x)
[steel] has a flexible algorithm for searching. Spaces, X's are irrelevant: so 'W 16 x 89' = 'w16x89' or even 'w1689'.
This makes a HUGE difference when searching for sections with long designations "i.e.: 2L 3-1/2 x 2-1/2 x 5/16 x 3/8 LLBB'
[steel basic] only includes v13.2 of the database, it does not include the latest AISC developer database 14 as [steel] does (which has 16 libraries, including historic!). It provides basic access to the Current American Institute of Steel Construction V13.1.1 in English Units. It will always be one library behind [steel].
- Other features from [steel] version are absent (sorting by property, conversion of properties between unit systems, etc)
- In app advertisement for [steel] (it's there, easily accesible in an unobtrusive way
