"Wakaru" is intended to help learning of Japanese through reading and to ease access to Japanese texts for non-native japanese speakers.

"Wakaru" is essentially an web browser and ebook reader (txt and pdf format) with built-in multi-language dictionaries :
Japanese -> English (165,000 entries)
Japanese -> French (15,000 entries)
Japanese proper names (700'00 entries)

In addition to built-in dictionary, "Wakaru" can link to external dictionary applications (Wisdom English-Japanese, Petit Royal Japanese-French, Daijirin)

For PDFs, dictionary search is available as an in-app purchase for 1.99$.

While browsing a website or reading an ebook, you can look-up quickly any word using the built-in dictionary. You have just to select the word, tap on "search". The definition will slide from screen bottom without interrupting your reading flow.

"Wakaru" has a built-in flash cards module that helps you review the new words you have learnt. No need of a separate app.

The Japanese text file reader supports portrait and landscape orientation, vertical and horizontal text layout, rubi annotations as well as several font sizes and customizable text and background colors.
"Wakaru" can download directly files from Aozora Bunko into your library (Free Japanese novels website - more than 10'000 books available). You can browse the Aozora Library by author, book title or by kanji level.
Several novels are provided as examples including "I Am a Cat" by Natsume Soseki.

You can also import your own text by copy and paste or through iTunes.

Wakaru supports retina display for iPhone and iPad.

With "Wakaru", you will improve quickly your reading ability in Japanese.

"Wakaru" is rated 17+ simply because the built-in browser has unrestricted access to the WWW.

"Wakaru" uses the JMDICT(http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/jmdict.html) and JMnedict dictionary files. These files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (http://www.edrdg.org/), and are used in conformance with the Group's license (http://www.edrdg.org/edrdg/licence.html).
