When you decide to make posts, they are tagged with your device key and your device's location. This is so that everyone in the area can see what's up, but, importantly, they don't actually know who you are. You can choose to change your 'nickname' on the option screen, however, so other users do see that.
Another key feature of the app is 'liking' posts. This lets people know how popular or accurate your post might be. There is also the ability to flag posts as vulgar or inappropriate. Behind the scenes, the app is keeping score of these ratings (and the devices responsible), and is applying a few rules. This means that devices may be blocked from posting or spamming, perhaps in the short term, but also the long term. So be a good neighbor.
