Boilly, retrospective - Palais des Beaux Arts de Lille (English Version)
This exhibition, the first international retrospective devoted to Louis Boilly (1761-1845), is intended to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. It brings together 190 works (paintings, drawings, lithographs, miniatures, pieces of furniture) from the greatest French and international collections.
Louis Boilly is one of the most original artists of 18th and 19th century French painting. This exhibition is the first international retrospective since 1930. The artist’s talent as a portraitist and caricaturist, as well as his virtuosi mastery of trompe-l’œil and talent as a chronicler of urban life, from the Ancien Régime to the fall of the Empire, is aptly highlighted.
Among the highlights of this application : the points of views of the curators of the exhibition, the biography of the artist, numerous "learn more" about the pictures, 25 commentaries, and the text of Jacques Jouet, written and read by the author.
