ClickThai Dictionary Thai/English
The ClickThai dictionaries Thai-English are the ideal companion for traveling.
The program is easy to use. Have a look at the screenshots below:
1. You have searched for the English term "market" and see the list of results, containing nouns and verbs and some compound words.
2. Select the first entry to see the details. Maybe this is not the word you are searching for, because you want to ask someone where the nearest vegetable market is located. So go back and select the second entry.
3. The details of the second entry have a better fit. This is the word you can use. But go back to the list of results and scroll down.
4. You find another entry "fresh food (green) market". May be this one is perfect for your needs. Go to details...
5. That's looking good. You can take this word for your question, and you'll be directed to the right place.
You can search for Thai and English words as well for a simplified phonetic transcription.
Select the search direction at the top and enter the search term in the selected language.
Of course, you can enter Thai script if you are searching for a Thai word.
For a transcription search you can just enter a word as you have heard it, ignoring short or long vowels or soft and hard versions of the consonants K, P, and T.
With a search you will find not only the word you entered, but also those words
which contain the search term and also short words that are contained in the search term.
And the best: All Thai words are provided with a sound file, so you can hear a word as often as you need to fully understand it.
The voice is recorded from a human Thai speaker and not a synthetical computer-voice. Every time you see a loudspeaker icon on top of the details,
you can here this word or let it listen to your conversation partner.
The search results are sorted: Looking for a English term, often there is more than just a single Thai translation available.
Which of them can you take? The list of results may contain rarely used words, i.e. used in Royal or Buddhist language only.
Not every Thai will know these words, and many of this words can be used only in certain situations.
Therefore, we have sorted the list of results by frequency of use of the Thai words.
The most frequently used words are now listed on the first positions and rarely used below.
Even when the analysis is based only on the written language and the spoken language would be appropriate in a different order,
it is nevertheless a great help. At least every Thai understands the terms listed on top.
We recommend using one of the first three or four words, where the detail translations correspond most closely to the searched word or situation.
