The Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), located right in the heart of Amsterdam, is a centre of both history and culture. Its high-profile exhibitions and activities with their beautiful objects and interesting themes continue to delight visitors.

The church itself is home to a wealth of stories that take us back centuries in time: to the church’s beginnings in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries when it was still a richly decorated Catholic church, and to the seventeenth century when the Dutch Republic experienced its Golden Age as a result of overseas trade.

This Pentimento offers an introduction to the Nieuwe Kerk’s history and shows some of its highlights - unrivalled masterpieces such as the main organ, pulpit and choir screen. It also includes some of the church’s monuments and tombs dedicated to various Dutch naval heroes, as well as many of its commemorative windows.

Last but not least, this app tells the story of the strong ties between the Nieuwe Kerk and the Dutch royal family. The Royal Palace is located next door and all royal swearing-in ceremonies have taken place in the Nieuwe Kerk.
