Standing opposite Horse Guards Parade, the spectacular Banqueting House is all that remains of Whitehall Palace - home of Kings and Queens from Henry VIII until William III. It was the first building in Britain to use Renaissance architecture, has a ceiling painted by Rubens and was the site of King Charles I’s execution.
This one-of-a-kind app is the perfect companion to experiencing Banqueting House and its surroundings without the need for books, maps or in-house audio guide. Use it at home, on a plane, on the Tube, inside the building - the encounter begins well before the entrance doorway and continues long after leaving.
To make the most of a visit there are ideas to consider before setting off, along with visitor information, travel planner and useful links. Afterwards there are suggestions for other things to see and do in the Whitehall area ranging from more of the same to the completely different. Points of interest and local facilities are marked on an interactive offline area map that includes introduction, contact details and weblinks. When online they appear in a directory of the 100 nearest points of interest, listed by proximity and plotted on Google Maps.
Don’t forget your headphones because there’s an hour of atmospheric audio guide to use how you want to. Enjoy before you go, listen again at Whitehall or in the Banqueting House and keep as a lasting memento. With pristine sound quality and filled with high quality music, cinematic sound design and dramatic reconstructions it’s a captivating way to become immersed in the many fascinating stories connected with the area.
