WorldPeaks
WorldPeaks is a light-weight augmented reality application for the iPhone 3GS, which provides users with information about mountains in sight. It can be used to identify mountains outdoors when hiking, biking, climbing or skiing. Mountains seen through the iPhone camera get labeled with their name, height and the distance from the user. Further information for specific mountains can be requested from the web.
WorldPeaks uses location, digital compass and accelerometer of the iPhone 3GS and allows easy manual correction of the compass error.
ATTENTION: Currently, WorldPeaks works ONLY on the iPhone 3GS (and probably on the iPhone 4). Older iPhone models, the iPad and iPod are not supported. You need an iPhone with a digital compass and a camera.
For Switzerland only: SwissPeaks, a local version of WorldPeaks with additional features is also available on the AppStore and is free. Please, try SwissPeaks if you are in Switzerland.
