Ooo-eeee, it’s that time of the year again – 31st October when vampires, witches and werewolves venture forth from their crypts, dens and lairs and go from door to door in a ghoulish form of protection racket. Trick or treat is the order of the day – or rather the night.

Incidentally, in case you aren’t aware of the background, Halloween originates from Ireland where it began as the old Celtic festival of Samhain held around harvest time. Samhain ruled over the kingdom of the dead. When Ireland was converted to Christianity, the church was either unwilling or unable to abolish the heathen celebration, so they simply renamed it ‘All Hallows’ Eve’, i.e. the evening before All Saints’ Day. In time, this became shortened to Halloween.
