Picture this: You are in your doctor's office discussing a medical procedure. The doctor is about to write up a referral to a specialist in a nearby hospital. There are a bunch of hospitals you can choose from, but which one? You want to make an informed choice together with your doctor right at the office.
There are plenty of applications that let you find hospitals in your neighborhood. But how good are those hospitals? Do you know which hospital has:
* the cleanest beds?
* the shortest wait?
* the best pain management?
* the lowest cost in treating a specific condition?
* the highest volume of a particular surgery?
The Hospital Compare app answers those, and many more questions, using official medicare survey data! It provides in-depth look at each hospital you select, and compare them against each other, as well as against national and state averages.
The report compares over 100 different matrix for each hospital, and can be emailed to family / friends as rich HTML web pages.
You can search nearby hospitals from your current location or by any zip code in the continental US and Alaska. You can also filter the search results and reports via hospital specialities.
As Americans, we spent way too much on healthcare and get very little in return. Part of the reason is that consumers do not control how their healthcare dollars are spent. There is no "free market", if the consumers / patient cannot make informed decisions. With the Hospital Compare app, empowered patients can now choose highest quality medical services available, and reward the best hospitals.
