Sahifa
AL-SAHIFE AL-SAJJADIYYA, aka The Psalms of Islam, is the oldest prayer manual in Islamic sources and one of the most seminal works of Islamic spirituality of the early period. It was composed by the Prophet's great grandson, the 4th Imam, `Ali ibn al-Husayn, known as Zayn al-'Abidin (`the adornment of the worshippers'), and has been cherished in Shi'ite sources from earliest times. Shi'ite tradition considers the Sahifa a book worthy of the utmost veneration, ranking it behind only the Qur'an and Imam Ali (a.s) 's Nahj al-balagha.
One of the great beauties of these sahife (supplications) is that there is a different one for each emotional state a person might be in, so that each dua can very quickly and precisely bring spiritual relief to a person. In addition most of the supplications are relatively short, which makes them ideal for being on a mobile platform.
According to Islamic beliefs one of the noblest aspects for the creation of the human being is to reach a higher spiritual stage such that each person continuously acts in accordance with the healthy natural laws of the universe and god. However, the greatest impediment to the human being is the part of him which is controlled by his animal nature and manifests itself in various emotions and moods. Almost every religious tradition has a mystical aspect that attempts to guide their adherents to medidation as the key to self-control and happiness. The Shia tradition's meditation techniques are based on the hadiths, and duas passed down from the prophets and the 12 infallible imams.
