Security! for iPhone 4
Security! for iPhone 4 is an app designed to capture evidence of other people using your iPhone or iPod Touch. It works by pretending to look like another app or your homescreen, yet when anyone touches the screen, their photo is taken (using the front-facing camera) and is automatically saved to your iPhoto library or emailed to you within seconds. With our latest update, you can also receive additional information in the alert email including a screenshot showing exactly where the screen was tapped (e.g. were they trying to look at your text messages or did they just want to play Angry Birds?)
This app uses the background multi-tasking APIs in iOS 4 which allows us to take photos and send alerts in the background even if a would-be information thief quits the app by pressing the home button!
So how does it work?
1) Open the app and choose a background image - the app will automatically replace the status bar at the top of your image with a realtime status bar so that the time, battery life, and internet connectivity options all look and work correctly.
2) Choose from a variety of options (e.g. save the photo to your library, what email address to send the photos to, enable touch area visualisation, and enable "capture on app quit")
3) That's it! Your device is now protected! Leave the app running and press the standby button to turn off your display - now if anybody tries to use your phone, their face will be captured and sent to you.
If you want to quit Security! without having your own photo taken, you can tap the status bar to deactivate the app.

This app works on both the iPhone 4 and on the 4th Generation iPod Touch.

PROBLEMS / FEATURE REQUESTS
Unfortunately iTunes commenting is a one-way street meaning that you can leave messages but I can't reply (or even get your contact details to email you). I pride myself on making high quality applications so if you have any problems at all, please email me directly at ben@bendodson.com rather than leaving a comment here which I can't reply to. I am actively working on improving this application with new features but if you have any suggestions for things you'd like to see in the future then please let me know.

REPLIES TO APP STORE COMMENTS
"This app makes your phone less secure! You can't lock your phone and all anyone has to do is press the home button and the apps stops and they are in to your phone without using a security code!! Redonkulous" - Skydivehooligan - version 1.0 - Aug 8, 2010
Umm.. that's kind of the point of the app. They get into your phone but you get a photo of them so you can confront them. If you want to just lock your phone, use the built in "passcode lock" feature of the iPhone to set a password or 4-digit pin that is required to unlock the device. This app is designed to take photos of people who try to use your phone (and see what they were trying to do). They'll eventually press the home button and get into your phone but they won't know that their photo has been taken multiple times and emailed to you. I'd love to be able to integrate the app in with the iPhone OS so that they can't quit the app until they enter a code but that just isn't possible with the iPhone OS at the moment - each app is heavily sandboxed.
"The email function did not work in the format ***@***.com (states not a valid email address format)" - Reach fanatic - version 1.0 - Aug 13, 2010
A standard email format would have worked but using any special characters (e.g. a + symbol) would cause a format error. This is because it is not an RFC 2822 specification address which is what I was checking for. Since version 1.0.1, I have made the email checker more lenient as non-standard email addresses are becoming more common. Please let me know if you're still having problems.
What's new
* Added support for location tracking - emails will now contain a map showing where the security alert was triggered.
